Where to start
This is TradingLoot's guidance, not a ranking of the books. After the original, the choice depends on what you trade.
- Start with the original Market Wizards: it is the first book, and its contents open with futures and currencies.
- For more interviews with futures traders, The New Market Wizards has a part on futures.
- If you trade stocks, Stock Market Wizards focuses only on stock-market traders.
- If you trade your own account, Unknown Market Wizards interviews individual traders.
- For traders active in recent markets, Market Wizards: The Next Generation is the newest volume.
What The Next Generation adds
According to Harriman House, Market Wizards: The Next Generation, publishedJune 9, 2026, continues the series' interviews with traders who have "the youngest average age of any book in the series." Schwager wrote it with George F. Coyle, whom the publisher describes as a "seasoned money manager and trading historian." The publisher's description also highlights individual traders' results; TradingLoot doesn't repeat those figures.
Editions and naming
- Wiley publishes the original as Market Wizards, Updated, a paperback edition dated February 2012.
- Stock Market Wizards was published as a hardcover in 2001 and as a paperback in 2003.
- Unknown Market Wizards is currently a revised edition from 2023. Its publisher's page doesn't state when the first edition was published, so this page doesn't either.
- For Market Wizards: The Next Generation, the publisher lists a paperback and an ebook ISBN; other listings show a further ISBN that the publisher's page doesn't, so it isn't recorded here.
