FX Replay vs Forex Tester: Replay Practice or Testing Lab?

FX Replay and Forex Tester Online are both browser-based platforms for practicing on historical market data, with a journal built in. FX Replay is centred on manual replay: you trade the replayed chart yourself and review the results. Forex Tester combines that kind of manual practice with backtesting and, on Pro, automated strategy testing and tools such as Blind Testing and Exit Optimizer.

This page compares how each works, what each plan includes, and how each is priced. It doesn't say which is cheaper, and it doesn't name a winner.

Quick answer

  • Different focus: FX Replay is a manual replay and practice tool. Forex Tester is a practice-and-testing lab, with trading robots, Blind Testing, and Exit Optimizer on Pro.
  • Automation: the FX Replay sources we checked describe manual sessions only. Forex Tester documents automated strategy testing on Pro.
  • Futures need Pro on both: FX Replay lists 20 CME contracts, though its own pages disagree on the list; Forex Tester covers CME futures with back-adjusted contracts.
  • Prop-firm practice isn't the same feature: FX Replay's simulator enforces rules you configure; how Forex Tester's prop-firm challenge practice works isn't detailed in our review.
  • Different free access and refunds: FX Replay has a permanent free plan but non-refundable subscriptions; Forex Tester has a free demo and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

What FX Replay is built for

FX Replay is built for manual practice. You open a backtesting session, replay the chart bar by bar, place simulated trades, and review them in a journal with notes, tags, screenshots, and checklists. Paid plans add strategy analytics and Monte Carlo and risk-reward simulators, and FX Replay describes its AI Trading Mentor as giving feedback on the trades you take in sessions. The FX Replay sources we checked describe manual sessions only. They don't document a tick-by-tick replay mode or any market-depth, DOM, or order-flow view, so FX Replay is best treated as bar replay.

What Forex Tester is built for

Forex Tester Online is built as a practice-and-testing lab. On every plan you can step through historical data and trade it by hand, with simulated spreads, commissions, swaps, and margin, across synchronized charts and timeframes. Pro adds the systematic side: trading robots that run a strategy against historical data, custom indicators, Blind Testing to reduce chart recognition, and Exit Optimizer to test exit rules. The automation runs inside the historical-testing environment only; it doesn't place live trades. A journal organizes the sessions into projects and trades.

Futures on each platform

Both platforms keep futures on their Pro plan. FX Replay's asset page lists 20 contracts, each labelled CME and "Pro only", with 1-second bars as the smallest timeframe and history from 2012 for most. FX Replay doesn't name the company that supplies its CME data.

FX Replay's own pages don't agree on the details. Its futures landing page lists ZW (Wheat) instead of MYM (Micro Dow), and an older help guide lists only five contracts. That landing page's plan cards also show futures and seconds data on every plan, while the pricing page, the asset page, and a help article say Pro only. If either point matters to you, check the asset list inside the app before subscribing.

Forex Tester's Pro plan covers CME futures with back-adjusted contracts and rollover handling, in the same browser environment as its other markets. Our review doesn't list which contracts are included.

Prop-firm practice

Both vendors offer something for traders preparing for a prop-firm evaluation, but they shouldn't be treated as the same feature. FX Replay's Prop Firm Simulator, on Intermediate and Pro, enforces the rules you enter for a session: profit target, maximum drawdown, daily loss limit, minimum trading days, spreads, and commissions. It has no presets for specific firms, and FX Replay says it isn't affiliated with any prop firm. Forex Tester lists prop-firm challenge practice as a Pro feature; how it works isn't detailed in our review.

Pricing, free access, and refunds

The two vendors bill differently, so this page lists each one's published prices rather than saying which is cheaper.

  • FX Replay: Beginner is free and permanent. Intermediate is $17.99/month or $180/year, and Pro is $35/month or $350/year. FX Replay says its fees cover platform access and historical data, so futures data is included in the Pro price.
  • Forex Tester, annual: Starter is $159/year and Pro is $239/year, both promotional prices against reference prices of $199 and $299. Forex Tester says these promotional prices stay locked in at renewal. The monthly figures it shows ($13.25 and $19.92) are annual billing per month; the standalone monthly price isn't shown. Data is included with the subscription.
  • Forex Tester, Lifetime: Starter is $239 and Pro is $399, as a single payment covering all future updates, both promotional prices against reference prices of $299 and $499, not confirmed to be permanent.
  • Regional pricing: Forex Tester's displayed prices can vary by region. Viewed from Europe, its site showed euro prices, with Lifetime at €199 for Starter and €279 for Pro on promotion.

FX Replay's free plan is permanent, with no credit card and no automatic conversion, and Intermediate and Pro both have free trials. Forex Tester offers a free demo with no credit card required, but how long it lasts and what's restricted aren't specified.

Refund terms differ. FX Replay subscriptions are non-refundable, with refunds considered only for confirmed duplicate charges or billing errors, or platform failures that prevented access for a significant part of the billing period. Forex Tester's 30-day money-back guarantee runs from your first purchase, and refunds can also be requested within 7 days of a recurring charge. Both can be cancelled anytime.

Which fits which trader

FX Replay fits if

  • You want to rehearse trades by hand on replayed charts. FX Replay is built around manual sessions: replay bar by bar, down to 1-second bars for futures on Pro, then review the trades in the same journal and analytics.
  • You want a free plan to start, not just a demo. The Beginner plan is permanent and free, with 2 sessions and 50 trades per session, and Intermediate and Pro both have free trials.
  • You want evaluation rules enforced while you practice. The Prop Firm Simulator, on Intermediate and Pro, enforces the profit target, drawdown, daily loss, and minimum-day rules you enter.

Forex Tester fits if

  • You want to run a strategy automatically, not only practice it. On Pro, trading robots run a defined strategy against historical data inside Forex Tester, alongside manual practice.
  • You want tools aimed at testing bias and exit rules. Blind Testing scrambles dates, prices, and symbols to reduce chart recognition, and Exit Optimizer tests stop-loss, take-profit, and holding-time combinations. Both are Pro-only.
  • You want a Lifetime option or a refund window. Both tiers are sold as a one-time Lifetime purchase as well as annually, and purchases come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

What this comparison doesn't cover

This isn't a setup guide, and it doesn't test either platform's replay or results against the other. It doesn't compare order-flow or market-depth tools: FX Replay documents none, and our Forex Tester review doesn't address them. It doesn't cover Forex Tester's standalone monthly price, its full futures and crypto lists, or the remaining Starter symbols, which our review doesn't establish, and it doesn't add up an all-in cost. For replay and backtesting inside trading journals, see our trading journal comparison. For how replay practice differs from strategy backtesting and paper trading, see our guide to backtesting, replay and paper trading.

How this was verified

This comparison is based on TradingLoot's two independently researched reviews, each built from the vendor's own pricing pages, documentation, and help resources. FX Replay was last verified on September 29, 2026 and Forex Tester on September 30, 2026. Prices, plans, and features change, and where evidence is incomplete this page says so rather than filling the gap.
