Trade Ideas vs Benzinga Pro

Trade Ideas and Benzinga Pro are both built for active traders in US stocks, and both work in real time — which is why they're often compared. They start from different places. Trade Ideas starts from a condition you define: it watches the market and alerts you the moment a stock meets it. Benzinga Pro starts from information: a real-time Newsfeed, curated Audio Squawk, and event-based Signals tell you what is happening as it happens.

In our reading of the documented workflows, Trade Ideas is scan-first and Benzinga Pro is news-first. That is TradingLoot's framing, not a vendor claim. The clearest overlap is real-time stock scanning, because Benzinga Pro's top tier includes a Scanner. This page compares the two by workflow; it does not rank them.

Quick answer

  • Trade Ideas fits a scan-first workflow: you define the conditions — volume, price, technical criteria — and it alerts you when a stock meets them. Optional layers add AI suggestions, backtesting, paper trading, and broker-connected order entry.
  • Benzinga Pro fits a news-first workflow: you want to read, hear, or be alerted to market-moving information as it breaks. It also has a Scanner and Signals, but only on the top Essential tier.
  • They compete most directly in real-time stock scanning. Elsewhere they overlap only partly — alerts and AI do different jobs in each — and they can complement each other rather than substitute.
  • Scope: Trade Ideas is documented around US stocks and ETFs. Benzinga's pricing material claims broader asset coverage, but the Scanner, Newsfeed, and Audio Squawk documentation we reviewed is described in stock-market terms.

Where they overlap — and where they don't

The clearest overlap is real-time stock scanning. Benzinga Pro's Scanner filters live by price, market cap, volume, float, relative volume, short interest, and shares outstanding, with a configurable refresh rate — but only on the Essential tier. Trade Ideas' scanning is its core product, with more than 500 data points available for alerts and filters from the Standard plan.

Alerts and AI overlap only partly. Both products send alerts, on different triggers: Trade Ideas' Streaming Alerts fire when a condition you configured is met, while Benzinga Pro's alerts follow the Newsfeed, its Signals, and your watchlists. Both have an AI feature, but they do different jobs: Holly suggests entries and exits, while Benzinga AI answers plain-language market questions.

The rest doesn't overlap. News and Audio Squawk are Benzinga Pro's core; they are not part of the core product described in our Trade Ideas review. Backtesting, paper trading, and broker-connected order entry are documented for Trade Ideas and not established for Benzinga Pro. Because they cover different parts of a trading day, the two can complement each other as well as compete. That is a statement about product scope, not about how any trader combines them.

Trade Ideas: a scan-first workflow

You configure what you're looking for — a volume spike, a price move, a technical pattern, or any of more than 500 data points — and Trade Ideas alerts you the moment a stock or ETF meets it. It is built around short-horizon, real-time discovery in US equities.

From a surfaced candidate, the workflow can extend in steps: charts and layouts to inspect it; real-time paper trading, included on the Standard plan; and, through the Brokerage Plus module, order entry through your own broker (E*TRADE, TradeStation, or Interactive Brokers; Trade Ideas describes its Alpaca connection as paper-trading access). Trade Ideas is not a broker.

Premium adds Holly and OddsMaker. Holly is an AI layer that suggests entries and exits from strategies it re-tests nightly through simulated backtesting; acting on a suggestion is a manual decision in the baseline workflow. OddsMaker measures how a scan, entry signal, or trading plan would have performed against recent history. Both work from historical, simulated results, not guarantees of future performance.

Benzinga Pro: a news-first workflow

The starting point is information. A customizable Newsfeed — with “Why Is It Moving?” explainers on headlines and, from the Streamlined tier, Advanced Filtering — is the platform's central capability, and the full Newsfeed is on the entry-level Basic plan. Audio Squawk adds a live, curated audio broadcast of selected headlines from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, from Streamlined.

On Essential, Signals flag events such as price spikes, block trades, halts, and opening gaps, and the real-time Scanner and Benzinga AI sit on the same tier. An Unusual Options Activity add-on brings options-flow alerts into the same workflow. Backtesting is not an established Benzinga Pro capability, and its documentation as we reviewed it doesn't establish paper trading or order execution.

Free access
Trade Ideas has a permanent free account, but it is limited to delayed data on a browser dashboard and doesn't include real-time scanning. Benzinga's own materials indicate a Free level exists, and that it sits below Basic and doesn't include the Scanner or Signals, but the current pricing page doesn't list what it includes. An older help article (May 2024) describes delayed quotes, a search-only newsfeed, a watchlist, current-session movers, a details tool, and a chart. What the Free level includes today isn't confirmed.
Market scope
Trade Ideas is documented around US stocks and ETFs, with options limited to a total-options-volume stock filter. Benzinga's pricing page states that the platform covers stocks, options, futures, and cryptocurrencies, but the Scanner, Newsfeed, and Audio Squawk documentation we reviewed is described in stock-market terms, so we don't establish futures or crypto coverage for any specific Benzinga tool. That is a limit of what we could verify, not a statement that Benzinga lacks such capability.
AI
Holly and Benzinga AI are not like-for-like. Holly (Trade Ideas Premium) suggests entries and exits in real time from strategies it re-tests nightly through simulated backtesting. Benzinga AI (Benzinga Essential) is described by Benzinga as market-trained AI for research and analysis: you ask questions about stocks, markets, and finance in plain language and get answers drawn from market data. We don't rank one above the other.
Charting
Both products mention charting, in different ways. Trade Ideas offers layouts and charts (up to 10 on Standard, including Picture-in-Picture) for inspecting candidates, but it is not a broad multi-asset charting platform. Benzinga mentions charting tools but doesn't document their depth, so we don't characterize them. Traders whose main need is deep charting should evaluate that separately.
Sensa Market
Benzinga's Essential tier lists a line item named “Sensa Market” without describing what it includes, so we don't compare it.

Pricing

The two pricing structures are built differently, so there is no single fair comparison number. Each is laid out below tier by tier, with what the tier unlocks. Annual figures are monthly equivalents that apply only when paying for the full year up front.

Trade Ideas

  • Free accountFree

Delayed data on a browser dashboard; no real-time scanning.

  • Standard$127/month, or $1,068/year ($89/month equivalent)

Real-time data, scans and screeners with 500+ data points, price alerts, real-time paper trading, and in-app trading.

  • Premium$254/month, or $2,136/year ($178/month equivalent)

Everything in Standard, plus Holly's AI suggestions, OddsMaker backtesting, Auto Trading, and Smart Risk Levels.

Trade Ideas has no standard free trial. It occasionally runs a paid Test Drive — one or two weeks of Premium-level access that ends automatically — and it wasn't open at our verification date.

Benzinga Pro

  • Free levelExists; current contents not confirmed

    See “Read before you compare.”

  • Basic$37/month ($30.58/month equivalent if billed annually)

Real-time Nasdaq Basic quotes, the full Newsfeed (without Advanced Filtering), chat, movers, watchlist alerts, and Benzinga Premium articles. No Scanner or Signals.

  • Streamlined$147/month ($124.75/month equivalent if billed annually)

Adds Advanced Newsfeed filtering and Audio Squawk.

  • Essential$197/month ($166.42/month equivalent if billed annually)

Adds the real-time Scanner, Signals, Benzinga AI, Benzinga Edge research, the Market Events Calendar, Insiders data, and the Elite Trading Community.

Add-ons: High Beta Squawk is $99/month (Streamlined or Essential). Unusual Options Activity is $27.97/month and brings options-flow alerts into Signals and the Calendar.

Trial: 14 days, card required. It converts automatically to Essential at $197/month unless cancelled within the 14 days.

What each price buys, for the items that are like-for-like:

  • Real-time scanning: Trade Ideas from $127/month (Standard); Benzinga Pro from $197/month (Essential), where it comes alongside the Newsfeed, Audio Squawk, and Signals.
  • A real-time news feed: Benzinga Pro from $37/month (Basic). Our Trade Ideas review doesn't describe a news feed as part of its core product.
  • Audio Squawk: Benzinga Pro from $147/month (Streamlined).
  • Backtesting: Trade Ideas Premium, $254/month. Not established for Benzinga Pro.
  • Paper trading: Trade Ideas from $127/month (Standard). Not established for Benzinga Pro.

These are different questions with different answers, so the tier prices can't be ranked against each other. A $37 Benzinga Pro plan has no Scanner; a $127 Trade Ideas plan has no AI suggestions or backtesting. AI is left out of this list because Holly and Benzinga AI do different jobs.

Choosing by workflow

  • Your ideas start from conditions you define (unusual volume, price moves, technical setups, premarket activity): Trade Ideas' scanner and Streaming Alerts are the core product, from $127/month.
  • Your ideas start from headlines and events: Benzinga Pro's Newsfeed, from the Basic plan ($37/month).
  • You want to hear the news rather than read it: Audio Squawk, from the Streamlined tier ($147/month). It is curated, runs 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, and doesn't carry every headline.
  • You want to test ideas before risking capital: Trade Ideas includes real-time paper trading on Standard and OddsMaker backtesting on Premium. Neither is established for Benzinga Pro.
  • You want to place orders from the tool that surfaced the idea: Trade Ideas can send orders through your own broker via Brokerage Plus. Order execution isn't established for Benzinga Pro.
  • You want a scanner and real-time news under one subscription: Benzinga's Essential tier ($197/month) combines them. Our Trade Ideas review doesn't describe a news feed as part of its core product.
  • You want options-flow alerts alongside news: Benzinga's Unusual Options Activity add-on ($27.97/month) provides them. Trade Ideas' options support is a filter for stocks by total options volume.
  • You want AI assistance: They do different jobs — Holly (Trade Ideas Premium) suggests entries and exits; Benzinga AI (Benzinga Essential) answers research questions.

Because the two aren't substitutes, this can be a question of which to evaluate first, not only which to choose.

Where neither is ideal

Three needs neither product is established as built around, and one where the evidence is incomplete for both.

  • Contract-level options analysis. Trade Ideas filters stocks by total options volume; Benzinga's add-on flags large options trades. Neither is an options-chain analysis tool.
  • Deep charting. Trade Ideas is not a broad charting platform, and Benzinga's charting depth isn't documented.
  • A free real-time scanner. Trade Ideas' free account is limited to delayed data, and Benzinga's Free level sits below the tier that includes the Scanner.
  • Markets beyond US stocks and ETFs. Trade Ideas' documentation doesn't establish them. Benzinga's broader claims aren't verified for its specific tools. Check support directly before relying on either.

How this was verified

This comparison is based on TradingLoot's two independently researched reviews, each built from the vendor's own pricing pages, documentation, and help resources. Trade Ideas was last verified on October 1, 2026 and Benzinga Pro on October 2, 2026. Prices, tiers, and features change, and where evidence is incomplete this page says so rather than filling the gap.
