What it's for

Finding trade candidates with market scanners, scheduled scans, and alerts, then charting, backtesting, and optionally automating them with trading bots that send orders to a connected broker through SignalStack.

Who it's for

  • active traders who want scanners, alerts, charting, and backtesting in one browser-based platform
  • traders who want to automate rule-based entries and exits with bots, and accept a separate order-routing cost beyond a small free allowance
  • futures traders who want CME Group data, futures backtesting, and a supported futures broker for bot orders

Strengths

  • Scanning, scheduled scans, alerts, charting, backtesting, and trading bots sit in one platform, rather than across separate tools.
  • Backtests cover stocks, futures, crypto, forex, and OTC symbols, with slippage and cost adjustments, forward testing, and CSV export listed.
  • Every plan includes 1-minute charting; higher plans raise scanning to every minute and backtests to 1-minute bars.
  • Real-time CME, NYMEX, COMEX, and CBOT futures data costs $7.50/month for non-professionals, and TrendSpider's broker directory lists seven futures-capable brokers for orders.

Limitations

  • There's no free plan, and the 14-day trial is paid; TrendSpider doesn't publish the trial fee.
  • The Standard plan scans and backtests at a 2-hour resolution; faster scanning and 1-minute backtests need Premium or above.
  • Bots route orders through SignalStack, which includes 5 free automated trades a month; more requires a paid SignalStack plan.
  • Backtests assume $0 broker fees, and indices and options can't be backtested.
  • Refunds are narrow: trial fees are never refunded, and other refunds must be requested within 72 hours of the charge.

Best for

  • Traders who want to find, test, and automate setups in the same platform.
  • Traders who scan intraday and can justify Premium or above for 5-minute or 1-minute scanning.
  • Futures traders who want CME Group data and backtesting, and trade through one of the futures brokers TrendSpider lists.

Not ideal for

  • Traders who want a free plan or a free trial before paying.
  • Traders who expect to automate many orders without an additional SignalStack subscription.
  • Traders who need to backtest indices or options.
  • Traders who need documented depth-of-market or order-flow tools.

TrendSpider is a browser-based trading platform built around finding, testing, and acting on trade setups. It sits in our “find what’s moving” category because scanners, scheduled scans, and alerts are central to it, but it’s broader than a scanner: it also charts, backtests strategies, and runs trading bots that can send orders to a connected broker.

What TrendSpider is

TrendSpider covers US stocks and ETFs, futures, options, forex, and crypto. Its tools share one workspace: scanners and alerts to surface candidates, charts to analyze them, a Strategy Tester to backtest rules against history, and bots to automate entries and exits. Sidekick, an AI assistant, is included with 25 messages a month on every plan.

Scanning and alerts

How often scanners refresh depends on the plan: every 2 hours on Standard, every 5 minutes on Premium, and every minute on Enhanced and Advanced. Scheduled scans rise from 3 to 10, and alerts from 10 (lasting 30 days) to 400 (lasting 365 days). For intraday discovery, the Standard plan’s 2-hour scanning is the main constraint to check before buying.

Charting

Every plan includes 1-minute charting and “all chart types”. Plans differ mainly in how many workspaces you can keep open, from 5 on Standard to 20 on Advanced.

Backtesting

TrendSpider’s Strategy Tester runs on stocks, futures, crypto, forex, and OTC symbols. It can’t backtest indices or options. Resolution and depth scale with the plan, from 2-hour bars and 2K depth on Standard to 1-minute bars and 30K depth on Advanced, with a $39/month upgrade to 20K depth for Standard and Premium. TrendSpider lists slippage and cost adjustments, forward testing, and CSV export. Its own help centre notes that backtests assume $0 broker fees, so backtest results don’t include commissions.

Trading bots and SignalStack

Plans include from 5 to 100 trading bots. Bots don’t place orders themselves: they send signals to SignalStack, an order router that TrendSpider owns, which passes them to your broker. SignalStack is free for manual trading from TrendSpider, and automation includes 5 free automated trades a month. Beyond that, you need a paid SignalStack plan:

SignalStack planSignals per monthFirst 12 months
Free5$0
Basic50$27/month or $270/year
Premium250$97/month or $970/year
Pro1,000$340/month or $3,470/year

SignalStack presents these as first-12-month prices under a “40% off all paid plans for 12 months” offer; it doesn’t show what the plans cost after that. Unused signals expire at the end of each month. If you plan to automate regularly, budget for SignalStack alongside TrendSpider itself.

TrendSpider for futures traders

Real-time CME, NYMEX, COMEX, and CBOT futures data costs $7.50/month for non-professional users, on top of any plan. Futures can be backtested. For orders, TrendSpider’s broker directory marks seven brokers as supporting futures: cTrader, E*Trade, Ironbeam, MetaTrader5, Optimus Futures, TradeStation, and Tradovate. Interactive Brokers isn’t marked for futures there.

TrendSpider’s futures page claims support for “all futures contracts,” including energy spreads, but the data it prices covers CME Group exchanges. The sources we checked don’t document how bots handle futures specifically (contract selection, rollovers, or order types), how backtests treat contract rolls, or any depth-of-market or order-flow view.

The monthly-billing prices are TrendSpider’s list prices. The annual figures are introductory: they apply to new customers, on the first invoice only, and TrendSpider states that “all sales of promotional plans are final and non-refundable.” Market data is extra where it applies: futures $7.50/month and OPRA options $9.50/month for non-professionals; US equities and ETFs are free for non-professionals ($29/month for professionals). There’s no free plan.

Trial, cancellation, and refunds

TrendSpider offers a 14-day paid trial “for a small fee, which depends on which plan you wish to try”; it doesn’t publish the amount. Trial fees are never refundable. You can cancel automatic renewal at any time and keep access until the end of the prepaid period. Renewal charges can be refunded only if you request it within 72 hours of the charge, after cancelling. If a trial converts to a paid plan, or you prepay and then cancel, a refund within 72 hours is reduced by the trial fee for your plan.

Where TrendSpider falls short

It’s paid-only, with a paid trial of undisclosed cost. The Standard plan’s 2-hour scanning and backtesting are coarse for intraday use. Automation beyond 5 orders a month adds a separate SignalStack bill whose price after the first year isn’t shown. Backtests ignore broker fees and can’t cover indices or options, and futures-specific bot behaviour isn’t documented.

Who TrendSpider is best for

TrendSpider fits active traders who want to scan, chart, backtest, and automate in one browser-based platform, and who will use Premium or above for intraday-speed scanning. Futures traders can use it with CME Group data and a supported futures broker.

Who should look elsewhere

Traders who mainly want real-time stock scanning and alerts can compare Trade Ideas, and those who start from news rather than conditions can look at Benzinga Pro; our Trade Ideas vs Benzinga Pro comparison covers that split. Traders who mainly need charting can look at TradingView, and those who want to automate alerts from other platforms can look at TradersPost.
